1. If the AirPods are not in your ears:

One potential reason why the AirPods microphone may be muffled or not working properly is that the AirPods themselves may not be in your ears. If this is the case, make sure to place them inside your ear canal for optimal audio quality.

2. If you are using an iPhone 7 or earlier model:

If you are using an iPhone 7 or earlier model, it’s possible that your AirPods are muted. Simply check the buttons on the side of the case to turn them on and make sure that both of your AirPods and case microphone (indicated by a lightning bolt) have not been turned off.

3. If you have turned off the microphone on your AirPods:

If you have turned off the microphone on your AirPods, there is a chance that you are not using the proper mic. Apple fixed this issue in newer models of their products, but older devices may still have this problem. Make sure that both of your AirPods have green dots on them to indicate that they are ready for use with voice commands or phone calls.

4. If you use an iPhone 7 or earlier model:

If you have one of the older devices in this category and you’ve checked all of the above solutions, restoring your phone may fix the issue! To do so, simply hold down on the sleep/wake button and home button until it turns off completely. Then, hold down on the same buttons until you see the Apple logo. Once this process is complete, try out your AirPods again and check if they’re working properly!

5. If you have a case from a different company:

If none of the above solutions work for your AirPods microphone not working properly, it may be due to a faulty case. Apple products come with a plastic case, while other companies provide different ones. If this is the case, consider purchasing a new one from Apple to see if it makes any difference!

6 . Reconnect Airpods ( And Check Bluetooth settings ) :

To fix this, try to reset your AirPods. To do so, remove them from your case and put them back in. You can also turn off Bluetooth on your iOS device, then turn it back on again after a few seconds by pressing the circular silver button at the top of your iOS device for around 5 seconds. To check if they work, click on “Connect”.

7 . Check AirPods-iPhone Bluetooth Pairing :

Sometimes the problem is not even with your AirPods but your iPhone. To check if this is the reason for muffled sound and mic issues, reset the Bluetooth pairing of your iPhone and set it up again while checking if both your AirPods are in pairing mode.

8 . Clean AirPods & Case :

If you feel that the sound quality has reduced over time, it may be due to dust or dirt inside your charging case or around the speaker part of the AirPods. To remove this, use a brush with soft bristles dipped in isopropyl alcohol or a cotton swab. Be gentle and avoid getting the liquid into any openings.

9 . Factory Reset AirPods:

If all of the above solutions have not worked, you may need to perform a factory reset on your AirPods. To do this, open the charging case near your iPhone and hold the circular silver button on the back for around 12 seconds. Keep holding this button and after 5-6 seconds, your AirPods will enter pairing mode. Follow the instructions on your iOS device to connect them again.

10 . Go For A Replacement:

If all the above solutions don’t work, get in touch with Apple Support and book an appointment for a replacement.
